Ceremonial Convocation of IIT Indore

Welcome All Students and Guests

The Ceremonial Convocation of IIT Indore will be held on 28th December 2022 (2.00 P.M.) at the IIT Indore.

Professor Amitabha Ghosh, born in 1941, received his Bachelors’, Masters’ and Doctoral degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Bengal Engineering College, Shibpur under Calcutta University, in 1962, 1964 and 1969, respectively. He started his teaching career as a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at his Alma Mater in May 1965.
He shifted to IIT Kanpur in 1971 January as an Assistant Professor. Since 1975 he served IIT Kanpur as a Professor and also in various other capacities like HOD Mechanical Eng., Head of Centre for Mechatronics etc, till his retirement in 2006. In between he served IIT Kharagpur as the Director from 1997 to 2002 during which the Institute had a major infrastructural upgradation and many new academic centres and departments were started. The academic programmes also did undergo major revision bringing in many new concepts. Professor Ghosh visited and taught at Technical University Aachen, Germany with a Senior Fellowship of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation more than a dozen times during the period 1977 to 2013.
Prof. Ghosh served as the Chairman of many national level committees like DST’s FIST and PAC, and CSIR’s Engineering Committee. He also served as the Chairman of Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute Durgapur for 12 years and NITTTR Bhopal for 5 years. Prof. Ghosh was the Indian Coordinator for Indo-Japan Science Collaboration programme for Engineering from 1998 to 2005 and the Indo-US Joint Centre of Excellence for Manufacturing from 2006 to 2012.
His primary areas of research and academic interest are Mechanics, Manufacturing Science and Robotics. Professor Ghosh has also interest in Astronomy and Ancient India. He has written eleven books and the text books by him are widely followed both in India and abroad. He has guided more than 55 M Tech and 20 PhD scholars and published about 120 research papers. Professor Ghosh has received quite a few awards including three Calcutta University Gold medals for topping the University in Bachelors and Masters examinations. He is a Fellow of all the four science and engineering academies in India

Chief Guest of the Convocation

Ceremonial Convocation Ceremony scheduled on 28th December 2022

Full Dress Rehearsal for the Ceremonial Convocation is scheduled on 28th December 2022. The graduating students registered for the award of the Degree during the Convocation must report to the Convocation Venue by 9:00 hours on 28th December 2022 for attending the full dress rehearsal. Students not attending the Full Dress Rehearsal will not be allowed to take part in the Convocation ceremony on 28th December 2022.
